One of the aims of the new Premier League Kicks Projects operating across Blackpool is to give young people the opportunity to experience not just football but a variety of different sports. Throughout the coming months Blackpool FC Community Trust will be doing just that, starting off with the Kicks young people enjoying professional boxing coaching courtesy of the Hard Knocks Boxing Gym in Poulton.
A handful of eager would be boxers were selected from Kicks for the first boxing session and they were put through their paces by boxing Coach Peter Andrews and his colleagues. The session began with a warm up of skipping and shadow boxing before Peter let the young people loose on the punching bags and speed bags. The participants were then shown how to punch, block and move properly in preparation for the gruelling sparring sessions. They showed remarkable skills and an appetite for boxing during the sparring sessions, and ringside spectators were treated to some excellent boxing action.
The young people from Kicks earned great praise from Coach Peter and his staff for their enthusiasm, endurance and boxing skills. We also heard brilliant feedback from the participants regarding the boxing sessions who all said they thoroughly enjoyed the boxing sessions. Blackpool FC Community Trust will be offering the free boxing sessions throughout the year as part of the Premier League Kicks programme to encourage young people to get involved in different sports.
Blackpool FC Community Trust wishes to thank the Hard Knocks Gym in Poulton for their assistance with the boxing sessions.
