National Citizen Service

Blackpool FC Community Trust run the National Citizen Service programme which consists of an away residential, a home residential and social action project including both planning and delivery. The Trust have already successfully delivered the NCS project with more lined up for the future.

The young people go on an away residential and take part in confidence and team building activities, with trained instructors, some of the activities are listed below:

  • Archery
  • Obstacle course
  • Canoeing
  • Fencing
  • Blind trail
  • Low ropes
  • Zip wire
  • Mountain biking
  • Evening uphill walk
  • Rifle shooting
  • Abseiling
  • Orienteering
  • Initiative exercises
  • High ropes
  • Crate stacking
  • Rock climbing

When the away residential is over the group move on to the home residential where the 15-17 year olds (15 year olds must be in Year 11) take part in additional activities, making use of their newly developed social and communication skills, such as army fitness drills, group sports, and an evening walk through the countryside, with meetings for organisation and preparation of a nursing home visit and for the on-going community work after the residential stays intertwined.

Reviews with all young people that have taken part previously are incredibly positive, proving that the experience is a great self-improving exercise providing important points to put on their CVs.

After the social action part of the project there is a presentation evening at Bloomfield Road where participants can see each other again and are presented with a certificate signed by the Prime Minister to recognise their contribution and efforts.

Once a month there will be an open evening at the stadium for you to come along and learn more about NCS.

Next date: Wednesday 13th September, 2017 – 5pm-7pm

Jordan Normanton, 16, NCS Participant

“My NCS experience was absolutely awesome. The best bit was meeting new friends and these will be friends for life. I enjoyed all the activities but the canoeing was fantastic. I was initially nervous about going away but I grew in confidence as the course went on. I recommend anyone to get involved in NCS.”

Myles Bony, Blackpool FC Goalkeeper, NCS Ambassador

“NCS is a fantastic programme. I did it myself a few years ago when I was 16 and it’s great. We did numerous activities and it really builds up confidence.”

Joe Stockell, 20, NCS Participant

““After doing the NCS programme, I can honestly say NCS was easily the best experience of my life. Not only did it give me confidence but it made me realise what I wanted to do with my life – which is a career in sport and youth work.”
